Chess Club

Sports Development

The chess club is a place for chess players of all standards to meet. We aim to provide equipment for casual play at club nights, to practice and improve, and provide an environment in which players can learn from one another and analyse games they have played.

We also aim to play competitive chess at a variety of levels. We run tournaments within the club, and travel to tournaments elsewhere, encouraging our members to get more involved in chess.

Club nights are Thursdays, 7:30-10:00 in the Us. café under the student union building.

Membership Information

These are the current membership plans offered by Chess Club, although many groups offer a free period for new members to try out their group.

  • Year Membership (£10)
This membership fee mainly helps support our club activities throughout the academic year; these include funding transport whenever our teams have to play away games, as well as buying new equipment to cater for the increase in our membership. However, turning up to club nights is free, and you are welcome to come along regardless.

This Years Committee

All student groups within the Students' Union are run entirely by students. The student committee for Chess Club this year are:

  • Stephen Gow
    Treasurer
  • Robert Cockell
    Secretary
  • Andrei Rusu
    President
  • Ryan Cheung
    Team Captain
